Velocity Labs is an independent consultancy helping engineering organisations adopt AI-driven software development in a way that lasts. We are experienced technology leaders and hands-on engineers, and we have built the kind of systems and teams our clients are building now.
We have spent our careers building and running software. That includes global systems with strict latency requirements and petabytes of data, gnarly legacy codebases that could not simply be rewritten, and the early days of racking hardware and fixing things in the datacenter at two in the morning. It also includes the modern end of the craft: cloud-native platforms, full infrastructure as code, and the automation that comes with it.
We have also built the teams that do this work: hiring engineers across four countries, shaping how they collaborate, and growing engineering functions from a handful of people to organisations that ship every day. We have done it inside large corporates and inside VC-funded startups and scale-ups, so we know how different the constraints, budgets, and pressures are at each end.
AI has changed what a team can build and how quickly. But most organisations are getting a fraction of the value on offer, because the tools sit on top of processes and platforms that were never designed for them. We started Velocity Labs to close that gap, with the skills, process, and platform work that turn AI from a novelty into a durable advantage.
We stay hands on and active in open source, including Smithy, an orchestrator for AI-assisted development that we contribute to. Working in public keeps our thinking grounded in real systems rather than slides.
The team
The team brings decades of combined experience building and scaling software and leading engineering and product across startups, scale-ups and large enterprises, including a global data platform we built together before Velocity Labs.
Tomas has spent two decades building software companies. He founded his first venture at sixteen, then co-founded and led a global, AI-driven customer data platform, scaling it across big-data and real-time systems. He works where software architecture, data, and the business meet.

He has led engineering and product as CTO and Head of Product in venture-backed startups, and runs his own product studio taking ventures from zero to one. His focus is getting AI working inside the way teams actually build.

Rob is a CTO and CPTO with a 25-year track record in telecom and SaaS innovation, across both permanent and interim roles. A systemic thinker, he turns business goals, deep technical understanding, and organisational reality into a vision and a roadmap, then builds the team to deliver it.
